android-nougat

Google finally released its latest sweet treat, and the Android users among us are getting all hot and bothered, like kids in a candy store. On August 22, Android 7 Nougat was officially launched, 5 months after we received our first taste test by way of its beta version.

Now that the real deal has arrived, let’s find out how Nougat is tastier than the previous Android update. Yes, that includes the bold flavor will appeal to iOS users’ palate.

The secret ingredients

1. Quick app switch — Avid (read: addicted) multitaskers rejoice! Switching between your two most recent apps is now easier: just give the “Recent Apps” button a double tap and you’ll be able to pull up the other application you’ve recently used, and vice versa.

The switch app feature also works on split screen mode.

2. Quick Settings toggles — Just when you thought the 2-finger “Quick settings” drop-swipe was the answer to all of life’s problems, Nougat takes it one step further by putting the tools most important to you at the top of the notification window.

3. Bundled notification and quick reply option — For easier access, new messages and notifications are all parked in one place, and you can even respond to these right from the notification panel, without opening the messaging app itself.

4. 72 emoticons to choose from — An increase in the emoji population is another welcome upgrade brought by the Android 7. We’re looking forward to the fingers crossed, and owl emojis the most. See them all here!

5. Multi-screen and display size — The split screen or multi-window mode is finally here and you can now have 2 different apps/windows at the same time on your screen.

You can also adjust the sizes of windows and items by dragging the slider in the middle, or toggling the display size option.

6. Data saver — Take full control of your data usage by restricting data-guzzling applications.

7. Import data from your iOS device — Long overdue: Android is introducing  Android switch. This feature makes it easier to transfer your contacts, music, photos, and other files from iOS devices to your Android Nougat handheld. Interested in how this works? The devices

As is customary practice in the Android world, not all devices will get Nougat. However, there are a few which will definitely be receiving the Android 7 upgrade:
